Audra is a unique artist because of her range and range of her skills as a songwriter and performer. In 2014 she made Broadway history and became the Tony Awards most decorated performer in the sixth Tony Award for her performance as Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill the role which was also the stage for her Olivier Award nominated performance in the 2017 season of the London's West End. Along with setting the record for winning the most awards by an acting, she became the first woman to be awarded each of the four categories for acting. After that, in 1999, she co-starred with Kathy Bates and Victor Garber in the television adaptation of Disney/ABC of Annie. Then, in 2000, she played an recurring role on the NBC series Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald's first Emmy was for the HBO movie adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Wit. The film was directed by Mike Nichols with Emma Thompson in the leading role and McDonald returned to network TV in 2003. The actress starred on Mister Sterling and produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. Early in 2006, McDonald joined the WB's The Bedford Diaries. The following year, she became a recurring actor on NBC's Kidnapped. McDonald's character in HBO movie Lady Day At Emerson Bar Restaurant earned her a four-time Emmy nomination in 2016. The Bite will be a six-episode series about a pandemic that will be produced with Spectrum Originals, CBS Studios and Taylor Schilling in 2021. McDonald first played U.S. lawyer Liz Lawrence (now Liz Reddick), in CBS's law-and-order action thriller The Good Wife, in 2009. In the year 2018, she returned to the role on The Good Fight for Paramount+ as a regular on the series. Her performance received three Critics Choice Award Nominations. She guest stars as a guest star in Julian Fellowes historical drama The Gilded Age.
